A BIG CHANGE, HUH?

DO GOODERS: OPERATION INTERDEPENDANCE
Jaime and I spent yesterday at Lion's Park in Shakopee. Operation Interdependance was on board receiving gracious donations for troops on the battlefield in Iraq. I learned about this from mail sent to the radio station and volunteered myself to be our on hand as a representative of the station. Jaime, conversely helped out the organizer and volunteered to help receive gifts from the public.
The amount of items that came in were a shock to the organizers. They collected everything from crossword puzzles to skin care lotion, rice krispie treats to duct tape. The out-pouring from the community was enormous.
Organizers want to do this once a month, "as long as we have to". I am all for this. I really hope the radio stations I work for, jump on this. Listeners expressed many thanks to KQRS for being behind this. I think it showed our compassion, in a time where we get slanted as "too pro-war".
Ideally, a more central location in The Cities would be preferred. Jerry, an Intern for KQ, made mention of an armory on Central Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis. I'm sure we could get a company like Ryder to help out with moving the donations. I highly suggest my employer to seriously look at this event. It isn't "rabble-rousing", it's just a good thing.
