VERY BAD NAV: PIMPS.ORG
I've neverminded The Pimps or as I once knew them, The Goodyear Pimps. Since they are from my old backyard of Southern Wisconsin & Northern Illinois, I feel an immediate attachement. But, that's the band. I'm pointing out their very flawed Web design.
1) Splash page - NO GOOD! Very no good. You immediatlely alienate dial-up users when you use a flash movie on it.
2) The flash movie on the homepage is coded wrong. In Mozilla it is left justified and in IE it is centered.
3) Onto the real sin: The navigation is no better than Mystery Meat. If it we're the game Tomb Raider, it would make sense, but this is the Web... people have extremely short attention spans. The "navigation wheel" on The Pimps Main Page is just poor. One has to turn the whole thing around to see their options.
Look at it this way. Let's say I'm a loyal fan of The Pimps. I want to get to their News Blog, but I'm like the average Web user and I just go to thepimps.com and have to drill down until I get to the news. Give your users what they want. Swiftly and quickly. They'll appreciate you more and come back often. Instead of going through a hassle.

When you're feeling down—no matter why—chances are your first instinct is to reach for your favorite high carb comfort food. That food may indeed lift your spirits a bit, because eating carbohydrates can increase your level of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in depression. In the end, though, the carbs are just a temporary fix that will probably leave you worse off. Why? Because while the pleasure of eating the food may cheer you up, and you may get a slight serotonin increase, those positive effects are far outweighed by the ultimate negative effect of the carbs. All those carbs may give you a brief energy boost, but within a few hours you're likely to experience a big energy crash as your blood sugar takes a sharp swing downward. How will you feel then? Depressed, irritable, tired, unable to concentrate—and the cycle starts all over again. Those who know me will tell you my spirits are up. My mood probably has never been better. I owe a great deal of it to low-carb living. The ups & downs you get from sugar really can throw a person. It's no good.
